I don't think the results of the poll are down to confusion completely.Sonic Adventure 2 was one of the final Dreamcast releases to come directly from Sega before the system was discontinued in 2001 the game was slightly tweaked and ported to the GameCube shortly afterward, sporting new battle modes and Game Boy Advance connectivity, and furthered the precedent set by Sonic Advance of Sonic the Hedgehog appearing for the first time on a Nintendo system. Mods do exist to try and give you the best of both worlds but it is not as simple and comprehensive as just downloading Better SADX and a few extras.
Many things are added, many other things are broken/removed. You can defitenly argue that SA2B damages the overall presentation too much. It's a very mixed bag, not clear-cut at all. However, Battle does feature various improvements to some of these same areas and content updates like the expansion of multiplayer modes and Kart stuff. Unfortunately this is not as well documented, nor it it as simple to correct with mods. This affects some levels and in particular the cutscenes in various yet subtle ways for the worse.
Battle notably breaks the lighting, so many effects, exaggerates audio issues etc.
I also feel many played Battle first due to it being later in the DC's cycle and the GC version coming out so quickly. SA2 Battle has many issues that are not immediately apparent, unlike SADX.
